Storism Glossary

Content structure

Collections, stories, media, and products are connected through a hierarchy and links. Understanding these relationships makes Studio easier to navigate.

Structure

How content fits together

The hierarchy goes from collections to stories to media. Products are managed independently and linked only to the media items that need them.

  1. 01CollectionA group to manage
  2. 02StoryA unit that groups media
  3. 03MediaContent shown within a story

Term

Collection

A group of stories displayed in a widget.

  • Create and manage collections from the Collections page in Studio.
  • Each collection has screens for stories, display settings, and embed code generation.
  • The collection attribute in the embed code specifies which collection appears on your site.

A collection and a widget are different concepts: the collection is the group you manage; the widget is how it appears on your site.

Term

Story

A unit that groups media items in order within a collection.

  • A story has a name and an optional thumbnail.
  • You can add one or more media items to a story and manage their order when there are multiple items.
  • Only published stories with at least one displayable media item appear as circles in the widget's story list.

A story is not a single image. It is a unit containing media such as images and videos.

Term

Media

A content item displayed in sequence within a story.

  • The current Add media screen in Studio uploads image or video files as media.
  • Each media item has a title, description, display mode, and publication status. Scheduled publishing is available on supported plans.
  • Products can be linked to media items as needed.
  • Videos can be selected as MP4, MOV, M4V or WebM files and must be no longer than 3 minutes.
  • Before uploading, your browser optimizes videos when needed. Videos that already meet the requirements can be saved unchanged.
  • Even with a supported extension, processing depends on your browser and the video and audio formats in the file.
  • You can use other Studio pages during processing and upload. Refreshing or closing the tab prevents resuming the task and clears inputs temporarily kept in the browser.

Even when publication is enabled, media scheduled for a future time will not appear in the public widget until that time.

Term

Product

Information for a product card linked to media and shown while the media is being viewed.

  • Products are managed independently on the Products page.
  • Products are linked to media items, rather than directly to stories.
  • The public widget shows product cards only for active products linked to the media currently being displayed.

Clicking a product card opens its product link and is counted in Product Click Performance.

Story thumbnail / Media thumbnail

An image used in the story list or media previews.

  • The image used in a story circle is called a Thumbnail in Studio.
  • Media items also have thumbnails. For images, the image itself is used; for videos, a generated or replacement image is used.
  • If a story has no thumbnail, its widget circle uses the thumbnail of the first displayable media item.

Story thumbnails belong to stories; media thumbnails belong to individual media items.
